There are several flights from Thailand main cities to Laos (Vientiane Capital, Luang Prabang, Savannakhet and Pakse).
From Thailand you can fly into Laos from Bangkok and Chiang Mai.
From Bangkok you can fly direct into Vientiane Capital, Luang Prabang in the north, Savannakhet, and Pakse in the south, Laos.
From Chiang Mai you can fly direct into Luang Prabang, the UNESCO listed World Heritage town in northern Laos.

There are several direct flights daily between Bangkok and Vientiane (Suvarnabhumi airport and Vientiane International airport) by Lao Airlines, Thai Airways, and Bangkok Airways.
Flight duration: Around 1 hour 5 minutes to 1 hour 20 minutes.
Price: Varies between airlines, seasons, time you book it, ticket types or level of flexibility. You can be looking at around US$160-US$250 one way (economic). Shop around for best deals.
Airport tax and other surcharges will be added on top of the ticket price that you will need to pay at the time you pay for your tickets.
There are a few daily flights from Thailand direct to the UNESCO listed World Heritage site of Luang Prabang (one of the most popular tourist town in the north of Laos).
Lao Airlines has one flight daily between Bangkok and Luang Prabang.
Bangkok Airways also has one flight daily (more flights in peak season) from Bangkok to Luang Prabang and vice versa.
Flight duration: around 2 hours.
Price: Varies between airlines and
seasons, normally it's around US$120 - US$250 one way and US$260 - US$350 round trip (economic).

Price: around US$160 one way and US$270 return (economic).
Lao Airlines has five flights weekly between Bangkok and Pakse.
Flight duration: around 2 hour 40 minutes
Price: around US$160 one way and US$300 return.
From Chiang Mai you can fly into Luang Prabang with Lao Airlines (direct flight) and Bangkok Airways (via Bangkok). Both airlines provide a daily flight.

Price: around US$160 one way and US$300 return.
This route has been discontinued. It's not clear when/if the flight will resume.
You might ask "What if I want to fly from other part of Thailand such as Phuket, Koh Samui, Krabi...?"
Well... you can do it, but it is not direct. You either fly via Bangkok (e.g. Krabi-Bangkok-Vientiane) or take a domestic flight to major town near the border such Udonthani, Mukdahan, Ubon Ratchatani...and then travel by land to cross the border to Laos.
Airport tax (THB700 for Thailand and/or US$10 for Laos) and other surcharges will be added on top of your ticket price at the time you buy your ticket(s).
