Extended stay

Hi,


I'm taking my mom back to Laos in June and staying for a month. I'm hearing horrible story regarding being over charge for getting a visa to enter Laos like paying $100-$200 (US) Have anyone experience this before? This is my first time going back since I left when I was 3 and want to have a great experience because I'm bringing my 9 years old son and a Chinese husband back with me. My mom is planing to stay longer than one month, so what's the process of getting an extended visa for her?

Thanks for sharing the story of over charging for visa fee.

I've been running this website for several years and never heard of such story. Don't get me wrong, I don't mean that this kind of thing can't happen, it might happen but it is rare because at the consulates, the airports or at border crossing points, where visa on arrival is granted, visa fees are clearly posted, so they can't charge more that what's posted there. $100 - $200 visa fee that you heard might be that they used the service of visa agents where they add their service fee and/or other fee such as express visa fee.

What often shared here by many travelers is that they had to pay a small bribe or something along that line, but that often happen at the border crossing at remote areas.

If you plan to arrive at one of the airports or main border crossing points such as Nongkhai-Vientiane border, you can get visa on arrival there (no over charge). The fee for US passport holders is $35 that's it. More info here https://www.laos-guide-999.com/visa-on-arrival.html#visafee

If your mom is 65+ years of age, she will not have to pay visa fee and she gets 90 days instead of normal 30-day visa. More info here
